Bumblebird is Troy Custer.
Troy Custer, the creative force behind Bumblebird, brings a rich tapestry of experiences and influences to his work.
Shaped by the culture, music, movies, and iconic events of the '70s and '80s, Troy's upbringing was anything but conventional. With the passionate essence of an Italian mother, the analytical prowess of a private investigator father, and education from nuns amidst the diverse culture of the Pacific Northwest, his life was a melting pot of contrasting influences. This fusion drove him toward a path of creative exploration, leading him to a big-city art college. There, his journey into graphic design began, spanning various industries and igniting a desire to delve deeper into his artistic pursuits.
Now, decades later, at Bumblebird, Troy melds graphic design with technology and hands-on processes, crafting pieces that defy convention. His work, marked by a blend of mid-century design, Eastern philosophies, urban geometries, and an affinity for the quirky, the darkly humorous, and the subtly eerie, speaks to those with a taste for the unconventional. From modern functional decor, accessories, and journals made from metal, wood, fabric, and paper to art prints, decals, and everyday objects depicting mythical creatures, extraterrestrials, and expressive animals, Troy's creations start as mere ideas — sketches, photographs, or voice notes — that evolve through intricate digital and manual manipulation into captivating tangible art. Each piece, designed to invoke a smile, a shiver of discomfort, or a spark of curiosity and wonder, reinforces the idea that art can be profound and playfully engaging.
Bumblebird celebrates creativity's boundless potential, where the whimsical, the fantastical, and the slightly offbeat find their expression, promising something special for every unique taste.
